I would say that I already made a pi/2-turn. How many turns am I going to take to get my PhD ?

As indicated on the image’s page at Citizendium, its actual origin is slide 30 of this presentation.
In terms of the number of turns to take, I don’t know of a general rule, but I did three turns and went off on a few tangents, three of which could be turned into loops later on, albeit short-cut ones.
